People wanting to take an island-hopping adventure holiday can take a trip relatively close to home, according to a Lonely Planet executive.
Laura Lindsay, who is the guide book company's media and communications coordinator for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said that the Isles of Scilly, off the south-western coast of the United Kingdom, are an ideal travel destination.
Ms Lindsay noted that there is a lot to do across the range of islands and - as only five islands are inhabited - there is a lot to explore on an adventure holiday.
"St Mary's is the main island and from there you can go to the different islands. It's a really easy place to go island hopping," she said.
"It's great in the summer, there are some great beaches. There's also snorkelling. It's really different and you get a taste of the Mediterranean in the UK."
According to market research company BDRC Continental's annual Holiday Survey, almost half of Britons are considering staying in the UK for their main holiday this year, compared with 39 per cent last year.
