Easter festivities in Spain are filled with 'sound and colour'

Many people who have planned solo holidays for the coming month or this summer will probably have booked already, but the Spanish tourism board have stated the best time to go is this time next year.

According to the Spanish Tourist Office, people planning to spend Easter in Spain will see that the religious event is celebrated with a huge level of emotion.

A spokesman for the tourism board said that the festival is a lot less secular in Spain, when compared to the United Kingdom.

"People take an active role in its events and traditions. By day and by night, the streets fill with the sound of drums, the colour of flowers and the art of religious sculptures, that come together to produce a highly moving atmosphere," she said.

According to searches on price comparison outfit Skyscanner's website, Spanish destinations are the most popular for Easter getaways. The Andalucian city of Malaga took the top spot.
