Dubrovnik is one of is one of the top destinations for people travelling through Europe for the first time, according to a travel expert.
Robert Reid, in an article for Lonely Planet's website, suggested that the Croatian city is ideal for people planning family activity holidays, as people cannot fail but be impressed by the breath-taking views it offers.
Mr Reid - who has written travel guides for North America, Europe and south-east Asia - said that the coastal city will begin to impress people on family activity holidays before they even truly arrive.
"You'll have to board a plane in order to be dazzled by the marble streets and red roofs of Dubrovnik," he said.
"By all means, first walk the city walls; the views over the town and sea are great. Explore the rest of the old town and take a seat at a cafe or along one of the beaches."
Croatia has over 1,000 miles of coastline, due to the huge number of islands surrounding the mainland.
