Travellers will encounter a range of stunning sights during their Machu Picchu tours, it has been claimed.

Many solo travellers make the trip to Peru to see first-hand the rich variety of relics from the Inca civilisation, including temples, palaces and houses.

An article on travelbite.co.uk claimed that the journey to Machu Picchu is almost as "exciting as visiting the ruins themselves" as visitors trek through the jungle and mountains to reach the ruined settlement.

"Along the way, you may come across a number of exotic creatures if you are lucky, including the spectacled bear - which is now endangered - the pampas cat and the Andean condor," it said.

The travel website also advises holidaymakers to visit the valley of Urubamba, in the nearby town of Cuzco, which features a range of archaeological sites.

Machu Picchu is 2,340 m above sea level on a mountain in the Andes and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983.
