Take in Andalucian culture while on cycling holidays
E-mail Print

Seville is home to the Museum of Fine Arts, containing Torrigiano works

If people planning to take a cycling holiday to southern Spain want to take in some culture while taking in the natural sights and burning the calories, they should visit a top museum.

Seville is home to the Museum of Fine Arts (Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla), which houses a vast collection of works from the Medieval period to modern day.

The permanent collection at the gallery, based in the capital of Andalucia, includes a sculpture of Saint Jerome by Pietro Torrigiano and Bartolome Esteban Murillo's 17th-century painting of the immaculate conception of Mary.

But the gallery also hosts many temporary exhibitions, such as Images and Myths in Andalusian Painting: The Bellver Collection, which focuses on paintings produced in the region and - particularly - in the city.

Travellers on cycling holidays to the Andalucian capital may also wish to stay in a unique underground 'cave hotel', located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada.
