Patagonia holds a 'mystical appeal' for adventure travellers

Adventure holidays expert recommends Argentinean 'wilderness'

Patagonia is "one of the world's last great wildernesses" according to a travel expert, making the Argentinean destination ideal for anyone planning a long-haul adventure holiday.

That is according to Charles Starmer-Smith, writing in the Daily Telegraph, who noted that the area is "great", in every sense of the word.

The writer, who is also the newspaper's travel news editor and commissioning editor for its tourism section, said that the "magical region" has some of the most beautiful panoramic views in the whole of South America.

"Over the years Patagonia has attracted all manner of dreamers, wanderers, adventurers and writers," he also wrote.

"Despite the steady growth in tourism, it retains a mystical appeal."

The history of the area is an "exercise in eccentricity", according to the writer. It is easy to see why, one of the claims to fame that Patagonia has is that the real Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid spent their last days there.
