Atlas mountains are 'awe-inspiring'
E-mail Print

Moroccan areas of the mountains are ideal for walking holidays

The Atlas mountains in Morocco offer "awe-inspiring" views, making the destination ideal for those planning hiking holidays.

John Gimlette, an award-winning travel writer, put forward the opinion in The Daily Telegraph that the mountainous region, which stretches across Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, is "breathtaking".

"Passengers would enjoy the colours of Moroccan geology, from scarlet to crimson and perhaps the odd trilobite hurtling past: a reminder that this was once below the sea, instead of 6,000 feet above it," he said.

The writer also suggested planning a hiking holiday in winter, as the weather of the north African country is "cool but bright". He warns that it can get too hot for some people in the months of July and August.

Mr Gimlette has written books about many different continents, including Wild Coast: Travels on South America's Untamed Edge and Panther Soup: A European Journey in War and Peace, which was released this February.
