Writer recommends that travellers see the Big Five in South Africa
Travellers planning safari adventure holidays should visit one of the many wildlife reserves in South Africa, as the country offers an almost unparalleled opportunity to see the Big Five animals.
These animals - lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo - are the most sought after by people taking wildlife-spotting adventure holidays.
Victor Sebestyen, the non-fiction author, wrote in the Daily Mail about a recent trip he took South Africa's fantastic reserves.
"[Within 48 hours, we saw] the Big Five - not including the cheetah we saw gnawing at the carcass of an antelope he killed an hour or so earlier, a herd of zebra crossing a road … and a mamba snake slithering by a track, so lethal its bite can kill within 20 minutes," he said.
Mr Sebestyen is well-known for his non-fiction books about the history of eastern Europe, including Revolution 1989: The Fall of the Soviet Empire and Twelve Days: The Story of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
