Travel expert suggests many attractions in south-east Asian country

People taking an adventure holiday in south-east Asia should visit Laos to see the famous Golden Stupa temple.

As well as seeing the surrounding countries of Vietnam and Cambodia, travellers should visit the ancient golden temple, according to travel author and photographer Kylie McLaughlin, who writes for the Lonely Planet website.

The travel expert suggested many different possible activities that people planning a trip to the south-east Asian country could take part in, reserving special praise for the attractions in the capital of Vientiane.

"Visit Laos' landmark, the Golden Stupa and take in the surrounding temples," she said on the Lonely Planet website.

"At sunset, join in with the rest of Vientiane's city folk and take a stroll along the Mekong."

The Golden Stupa - which is known as Pha That Luang in Laos - was built in 1566 to commemorate the transferring of capital city duties to Vientiane. It stands at 45 metres tall and is covered with gold.
