Petra
Driving to Petra along the Desert Highway. We then spend two full days visiting the 'forgotten city' of Petra, one of the most famous archaeological highlights in the Middle East. Experience the site with a walking tour of the area along with an option of the 'Petra by night tour' allowing time in this ancient attraction under the night sky and lit by a thousand candles.
The Dead Sea
We transfer from Petra to Wadi Rum to camp in the desert. Discovering Jordan's landscapes, we continue to the Dead Sea, Dead Sea with time to discover this unique landscape and enjoy a float in its saline waters. The trip finishes by exploring Ajlun Castle and one of the most impressive surviving Roman cities, Jerash and Amman.
Traditional Local Accommodation
The accommodation on this tour has been chosen to try to have a cultural and local style in as many destinations as possible. The hotel in Petra is distinguished by its Bedouin-style rooms. These are tastefully furnished to complement the village style setting. We camp 'Lawrence of Arabia' style in Wadi Rum in traditional Bedouin surroundings, with showers, traditional tent with segregated sleeping areas and sleeping mats and fully catered facilities. We then travel into the Dana Nature Reserve where we stay at an eco-lodge. All the rooms have uniquely designed architecture and are lit by candles creating an arabesque atmosphere. The journey then continues to the Dead Sea where we stay at a spa hotel.
Comment
Walking on this trip is designed for people in reasonable health. There are guided walks in and to the nature reserve on established nature trails and in the desert at Wadi Rum although there is the option of a camel ride rather than the walk to the overnight camp at Siq al Tawakhey.
