Whale Watching Safari
Situated inside the Arctic Circle and close to the edge of the continental shelf (a favourite feeding spot for whales), the tiny fishing village of Sto makes the perfect place to embark on a search for some of our ocean's most remarkable creatures. Spending a full day out at sea to give us the best chance of cetacean sightings, we are most likely to come across sperm whales, although on about 30-40% of the sailings we may also be lucky enough to catch glimpses of pilot or minke whales, humpbacks, dolphins or even orcas.
Lofoten Wildlife
Our second full day in the 'land of the midnight sun' (so called because in late May and June the sun barely sets) has been left free for you to either take another whale watching tour (optional) or take a zodiac boat ride to some nearby islands for the chance to view white tail eagles, puffins and seals. There are also chances to take a coastal walk, fishing trip or an island hopping tour. If you didn't see any whales the previous day, then you can also go on the whale watching tour again for free on this day.
Comment
In 2008, 96% of groups saw sperm whales and approximately 30-40% of these groups also saw other cetacean species. If you don't see any whales on the first sailing, you can go on another sailing excursion for free. In the unlikely event that the weather is too bad for sailing on the open sea, then we plan to do a bird and seal safari amongst the islands instead. Despite excellent sightings in 2008, these cannot give an indication of sightings in 2010 and we are unable to make any guarantees of whale or other wildlife sightings.
