Thorsmork & the Northern Lights
From the capital Reykjavik, we head off in outrageous 'Superjeeps' (complete with huge tyres and satellite navigation) on a wild ride into the valley of Thorsmork - a landscape of glacial moraine and lakes crackling with ice. On the return leg we drive across lava fields and, weather permitting, we may view the dazzling light show of the 'Aurora Borealis'.
Waterfalls, Geysers & Blue Lagoon
A favourite optional activity is a tour of the region's natural wonders, including the towering waterfall of Gullfoss and Geysir, the spouting hot spring after which all others are named. Alternatively, if the snow is suitable, how about a snowmobile ride up in the hills (instruction and crash helmets are both provided). Then why not round off your adventure with a dip in the Blue Lagoon: bathtime will never be the same again...
Comment
Short, sharp, exhilarating and suitable for all abilities. The optional snow-mobiling trip is subject to snow conditions. The best time to view the Northern Lights is between December and March, although sightings are very much dependent upon favourable weather conditions.
