Snowshoeing Tour In Lebanon

Overview

Snowshoeing Amongst Cedars
Since antiquity Lebanon has been known for its dramatic cedar trees; now protected the Chouf Cedar Reserve covers 5% of Lebanon's entire land area and between mid December and the end of March is covered in snow - perfect for blowing away the cobwebs with a couple of hours snowshoeing! There's no need for any previous experience as with a little bit of tuition, in a few minutes even first timers will have the hang of things.

Monasteries & the Qadisha Valley
Perched up in the hills we explore the town of Bcharreh then the remarkable Qadisha Valley on foot. Famous for its numerous monasteries, chapels and churches - all hewn from the steep, rocky walls, walls which for years have - and still do - provide seclusion and safety to the monks and hermits below.

Beirut- 'Paris of the Middle East'
Once a playground for the rich and famous Beirut, Lebanon's capital, has in recent years again blossomed into one of the eastern Mediterranean's great cities, regaining its stature as the region's most vibrant city. We explore this city on foot taking in the many highlights from its Phoenician history as an important trading post, Roman times for its school of Law and today as an important commercial centre.

Trip Summary

Generally not renowned as a winter sports destination, Lebanon is actually an ideal destination for an action packed weekend break. Blessed with some spectacular mountain scenery, its snow covered mountain slopes rise up to over 3000m, providing not only ideal conditions for snow-shoeing, but also some spectacular views out across the Beqaa Valley and the Mediterranean. We will spend two days enjoying this majestic setting, hiking across the snowy slopes and exploring the rugged hidden landscapes of the Qadisha Valley, home to some of the oldest and most atmospheric monasteries on earth. Our last night will be spent in Beirut, one of the liveliest and most cosmopolitan cities anywhere in the Middle East and the perfect spot for some well deserved après ski!
