Arrive in Rio de Janeiro and discover the capital’s boutiques, boulevards and beaches such as Ipanema and Copacabana. Sunset in Rio is a spectacular time as the city’s residents, the Cariocas, head for the beaches while the mountains cast long shadows under a pink and golden sky.

Day 5:
Ilha Grande
After breakfast you will drive along the coast to the old port of Angra dos Reis. This area of the Costa Verde is perhaps Brazil´s most spectacular stretch of coastline, and the two-hour ferry journey to Ilha Grande gives you time to appreciate the magnificent scenery of mountains, jungle, cliffs, islands, bays and deep oceans. Cars are prohibited on Ilha Grande, so from your arrival at the village of Vila do Abraao, you’ll walk to your hotel.

Iha Grande
Day at leisure. Explore the island’s jungle trails and enjoy the deserted beach of Praia Lopes Mendes. Trails lead across the island through thick pristine jungle filled with monkeys, butterflies and birds, and to secluded waterfalls and deserted beaches; Praia Lopes Mendes was voted one of the best in Brazil.

Paraty
Drive along the Costa Verde to Paraty. It’s a spectacular route where mountains line the side of the road and green jungle drops directly into the sea. Upon arrival, there’s free time to explore.

Take a guided walking tour of this 18th century colonial town. Paraty is a Historic National Monument and UNESCO listed; 65% of the town is inside the National Park of Serra da Bocaina. You will visit several churches, the museum, and some of the old houses.
