When to travel?
Cuba has a hot, sub-tropical climate all year round. Most rain falls between May and October and hurricanes can occur between August and November. The cooler months are January to April with temperatures as low as 20ºC, offering comfortable temperatures for exploring the island.

It’s well worth going up one of the church towers for panoramic views over the red-tiled roofs and Escambray Mountains providing an impressive backdrop.

Sierra Maestra excursion
Travel by jeep as you climb the steep road to Alto de Naranjo before exploring on foot the famous ‘Comandancia de la Plata’ area deep in the mountains – HQ to Fidel, Che and comrades during the revolution.

Sierra Maestra trek
Venture out on a two-day trek across Cuba’s highest range of peaks – the Sierra Maestra. Your first day takes you up hills covered in cloud forest to the rustic accommodation at Joaquin cabin. This is approximately 6 hours of walking.

Today you’ll reach Cuba’s highest peak, Pico Turquino (1,972m) before a stunning descent brings you to the coast. It’s a scenic drive from Las Cuevas to Santiago with the option to stop for a quick dip in the inviting Caribbean waters. The walk is approximately nine hours
