The Cambodian climate can be divided into three seasons: the cool, hot, and rainy season. The cool season from November to February is a good time to visit with comfortable temperatures for travelling. During the hot season from March to May temperatures can reach 40°C; the temples at Angkor, on their plateau, can feel particularly warm. The wet season runs from around June to October, but with rains usually only lasting an hour or two in the afternoon, this leaves the rest of the day free to explore.

Day 2:
Phnom Penh
Upon arrival, the day is yours to begin exploring this surprisingly stylish and vibrant city of contrasts. Start by practicing your haggling skills at the Russian Market or take a sunset cruise along the Mekong.

Day 3:
Phnom Penh city tour
Spend the day discovering the sights of the city with your guide including The Grand Palace and Silver Pagoda, National Museum as well as the notorious Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and “The Killing Fields”.

Day 4:
Phnom Penh to Kratie
Dare yourself to try the local delicacy of fried spiders at Skoun Town and visit Nokor Temple before continuing to the charming town of Kratie, renowned for its beautiful sunset views over the river. Wander down to a riverside restaurant for dinner.

Day 5:
Kratie - Irawaddy dolphins
Travel to Kampi and take a peaceful boat trip on the mighty Mekong in search of the rare Irrawaddy dolphins. After enjoying an hour or more of dolphin viewing, continue to the island of Koh Trong in the Mekong River to spend time cycling, visiting villagers and pagodas.

Day 6:
Mondulkiri
Today we head south to the wilds of Mondulkiri, leaving civilization behind and travelling on the red earth roads of the hill country and up into jungle-clad mountains. You’ll spend the night in this scenic area, which is dotted with Pnong minority villages.

Day 7:
Minority village visits
Today is spent exploring, first heading east to the double-drop waterfall of Bou Sraa, one of the most famous in Cambodia. Here you can picnic and enjoy a swim. You’ll also visit a minority village, where you may be invited to drink rice wine with the friendly locals.

Day 8:
Elephant Valley Project
Today we head deep into the jungle to visit and stay at the Elephant Valley Project, which employs members of the local community while protecting the forest and its inhabitants. The Elephant Valley Project rescues and treats domestic elephants who have suffered injury and abuse. You’ll be introduced to the elephants and get to know more about their history, character, behavior and body language while walking alongside them in their stunning natural environment, and helping to feed and bathe them.

Day 9:
Kompong Cham
Continue to Kampong Cham where you cross to the island of Koh Paen and watch daily village life unfold before you. In the wet season, you'll cross by local ferry and in the dry season by bamboo bridge.

Siem Reap and Tonle Sap Lake
Take a trip to Lake Tonle Sap, one of the ecological wonders of the natural world and the largest freshwater lake in Asia. Visit floating villages to see how they live day-to-day. En route back to Siem Reap stop at an orphanage and see how silk is made.
