What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour
There was no one single higlight - what made this tour special was that everyday brought something new and interesting. It was varied but gave lots of time for insights into the lives of ordinary Keralans - a blacksmith working his privimive forge for example which in its self doesn't sound tremendously exciting but alongisde the elephant rides and temple visits etc gave a more rounnded experience
How Was Your Explore Tour Leader
Exceptionally good. We have been on 6 or so other Explore trips and never had a bad one yet but Rej really was excellent: good humoured and enthusiatic, very knowledgeable and very accommodating to all of our requests and questions.
What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour
Certainly recommend it but the prospectus needs updating. Post-tsunami it is more Backwaters and Foothills than beaches. Varkalam was good but it one was expecting a lot of beaches you would be a bit disappointed. Actaully we think more time could and should be spend in the Periyar area trekking etc.
Do You Have Anything Else To Add
We had a great time but it was out first visit to India and we suspect an easier introduction than say Calcutta. As above, more time could have spent in the Periyar area and possibly one night less in the homestay (or an extra night added to the trip).
What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?
"The cycle ride was fabulous, the sights, sounds & smells which we wouldn't have experenced any other way.
The train trip was very interesting & like the bus ferry in the backwaters gave us a real chance to chat to the local people."
How was your Explore Tour Leader?
Our tour leader, Eugine, was fantastic. He connected personally to everyone in our group & really immersed us in local culture. He was fun for the children, teaching them local traditional songs & dances & had unlimited information to share about all aspects of our tour.
What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?
Be prepared in monsoon time for some aspects of the trip to change, & embrace the changes! We were unable to do the trek, but instead we got to witness a local festival 'tiger dance'which was intriguing!
