Detailed Trip Notes

Suitability

Suitability

We've given each of our tours a comfort rating and a tour pace, walking or cycling grade to give you a general idea about the level of activity on each tour and the standard of accommodation you will be staying in at the end of your day's adventure.

Often you'll stay in different styles of accommodation during your tour; so we make an average rating across the entire tour.  For more information on where you'll stay each night, please refer to the day by day tour itinerary.

Short rides, up to about 4 hours (or 45 kilometres) per day, mainly on flat or gently undulating terrain. You don’t have to be a regular cyclist but you should be reasonably fit and active. Easy grade trips are ideal if you simply want to explore a region by bike at a relaxed pace.

Climate

The best time to travel in Germany is between May and October, when daytime temperatures can be in the mid to high 20s centigrade, but be aware that weather in Germany, as with much of Europe, can be unpredictable and rainfall can occur at any time. The Czech Republic enjoys a more continental climate, with hot summers tempered by sudden and sometimes heavy thunderstorms, Prague typically has warm but rainy summers with between 8-9 hours of sunshine daily from May to August, dropping to 6 hours in September.

Seasonal weather patterns can be unpredictable. For up-to-date information on the weather worldwide please visit www.bbc.co.uk/weather.

Packing for your tour

To assist with packing for your tour, we have detailed some of the essential items you should take with you.

Luggage

Unfortunately it does occasionally happen that luggage does not always reach its destination on the same flight as its owner, or possibly it may be damaged in transit. If you are unlucky enough for this to occur, it is important that you file a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) with the airline before leaving the airport. This is essential when you come to make a claim either against the airline or from your travel insurance company

One main piece of baggage, a soft grip bag is ideal (not a framed rucksack) and a small daysac. Total allowance 44lbs/20kgs.

Clothing

Pack generally for warm to hot conditions. A windproof and waterproof garment is needed as rain can fall at any time during the season. Take a fleece or warm sweater, particularly for departures early and late in the season. Summer cottons or medium weights in spring and autumn.

Footwear

Shoes for cycling, plus a change of shoes for evening wear.

Equipment

We recommend you bring a torch, insect repellent, suncream, sunglasses and a water bottle. You must bring your own cycle helmet, cycle gloves and shorts. Please consider carrying all or some of your cycling equipment, e.g. helmet, as part of your hand luggage
