I had a great time on Explore tour AKH to Alaska. Highlights are too many to mention – although when the pilot started taking photos while we were flight seeing over Wrangell St Elias National Park we knew we were seeing something special. Weather was warm and sunny in mid June with only a couple of days of rain, and mossies weren’t as bad as I was expecting although I did get bitten even with high deet. We were very lucky and saw an abundance of wildlife: Humpbacks, Beavers, Moose, Red Fox, Ptarmigens, Grizzlies, Puffins, Sea Otters, Seals and Golden Eagles. Most days we spotted something, although Denali Highway (not the park) was a hot spot as was the optional boat trip from Seward. Alaska is more expensive than the rest of the States so be prepared to pay. The optional trips I did (boat trip from Seward, flight seeing from McCarthy, Glacier walking at Kennicott, Glacier trip at Knik River), in my opinion, are good value for money and amazing experiences. Some members of the group were somewhat disappointed with the standard of accommodation however I found them to be warm and clean which is really all that I required. Anyone who likes New Zealand or the Rockies will love Alaska. The Photos just don’t do it justice. It’s an amazing landscape and I had a totally amazing trip, thanks Explore! (AKH - 11th June 2011)
