Check the weather as it is cold at night. One of the best things i packed was my hot water bottle.

Do you have anything else to add?

No, except thank-you to everyone who was on the holiday for making my holiday so memorable

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Exceptional, he was so helpful with information about every question I asked him and really made sure every member of the group was well looked after.  Also, we were not babied, we were allowed to wander off and take photos and things.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

"-Do not expect hot water in the hotels; if you get running water it's a bonus.  Just relax and enjoy it, it's an adventure!
-Pad everything; get a padded saddle cover for your bike and wear padded shorts too, especially when camel riding!
-Talk with the people there, really get involved and you will enjoy it more than just snapping pictures, say Bonjour and do not be afraid, the people are wonderful.
-don't eat or drink anything not from the hotel or a shop, always drink bottled water and you will be fine :)"

Do you have anything else to add?

This was my first adventure holiday, I was alone and a little worried about what to expect.  I need not of worried as I had the most amazing time, even though I fell off my bike on the first day and looked ghastly the whole week this did not spoil things a single bit.  Everything was wonderful and I have never been as surprised and enchanted by a place as I was by Morocco!

Said was one of the best guides I have ever come across. The right blend of encouragement to us weaker cyclists and looking after everyone's needs. The whole crew really made the trip a success.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Take plenty of warm clothing in winter. Many of the hotels do not have heating. The penultimate one was especially cold wearing fleeces and hats in the restaurant. Quite unpleasant reallly.

Do you have anything else to add?

Despite the cold , it was an excellent trip, perhaps more time in the towns would have been even better. However the  team made sure yuo really experienced this fascinating culture.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Brilliant - nothing too much trouble, & just bossy enough to keep everything running on schedule.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

In December / January take a sleeping bag, a travel kettle & a hot water bottle. The hotels are COLD

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

We enjoyed the most spectacular downhill runs of my life while also having enough challenging cycling for the most determined cyclists.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

The tour leader (Mohamed El-taleb) was fantastic, obviously he has been brought up in the mountains and knew every twist and turn and it seemed that he knew all the local villagers. He was also a fantastic cyclist himself and allowed us to go as fast as we liked (while keeping the slower guys happy too). He was friendly and helpful and worked constantly to make sure everyone was ok and happy. He had a cracking sense of humour and the biggest smile to brighten up our days. He was encouraging to the weaker cyclists and looked like he was also enjoying the trip (this has not always been the case on some holidays I've been on). Fantastic 5* trip throughout.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Pack warm clothes if you go in December - it is cold in the desert and at the top of mountains. The hotels do not have heaters and the 'swimming pools' advertised look great but are also not heated - so leave the swimming costume at home! Don't expect hot water in all the hotels (or you might have to wait for ten minutes before the water runs warm). Fabulous locations, great cycling but take gloves!

Do you have anything else to add?

One thing which could have been better would be to have a night flight home on the Sunday. As we only had one night in Marakesh, everyone would have preferred the chance to stay up (we had a 6.00am wake up call so the sensible ones went to bed early). It would also have been nice to have spent Sunday in Marakesh buying souvenirs, going to the hammam etc. (especially after all that cycling).

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

This was the first cyling trip I had ever done with Explore - mostly I do trekking or multi-active trips. So I was slightly nervous as to what to expect. Well I neednt have been - the group, the tour leader, the itinerary, the bikes, the hotels, the food - everything was great! The tour was rated perfectly as it wasn’t an easy tour but it wasn’t a strenous tour either. It had a little bit of everything from the steep acents that burnt at your thigh muscles, to the flat long endless motorways with little traffic, to the winding roads passing thousand of date palms and kasbahs, to the sharp decents of through the High Atlas. The hotels were lovely and the staff friendly, the food was typically moroccon and wonderful. I am now looking for the next cycling tour and cannot wait!!

Said was brilliant. It took him about a day to come out of his shell but once he did the dry sense of humour was brilliant. He knowledge on the areas, bikes and everything else was fantastic. He knew when to pace the group and when to let the reigns go.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

You definately need a penknife on this tour. Take wetwipes as well - they came in really handy on the windy dusty days.

Said was very good.  He was certainly able to answer any questions that arose.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

It is essential to take a knife and a torch.  Given the existing schedule it is worth arriving in Marakech a day early to provide an opportunity to have an independent look around.

Do you have anything else to add?

It would have been good to have been told a little bit more about the places we were visiting or going through - special features, way of life, etc.

The Southern Oasis cycling tour covered a great variety of landscapes from the High Atlas Mountains to the edge of the Sahara desert.  Our group of 16 was divided between two converted Transit vans that carried all the bikes on a roof rack.  A guide and driver accompanied each van.  The Stockli mountain bikes were good to ride and were quickly and well maintained by the team if any problems arose.  We did 3 days of relatively flat, but sustained road cycling through desert scenery which involved little traffic and perhaps got a little monotonous after a while. The shorter optional day was around kasbahs and palmeries and included some sightseeing around the markets of Rissani and a journey into the nearby stunning sand dunes either on foot or by camel for sunset.  The best day by far was in the High Atlas which involved an exhilarating sequence of descents on mostly tarmaced roads surrounded by the changing mountain scenery and Berber villages – a big reward for all our efforts and something you rarely get to do on a bike!  I was pleased to be able to cover every mile of the planned cycling route, but it was also good to know that one of the vans was always leading the way and the other was always at the back to pick us up if we wanted a break from cycling.  Several member of our group did this from time-to-time and on occasion because of upset stomachs so it’s worth being careful about hygiene when buying supplies for your packed lunch.  The hotels were comfortable, but a few had no heating which is actually needed in the coolest winter months so it’s worth packing accordingly.  All-in-all, a great value and diverse cycling tour.
