How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Brilliant. Rene worked tirelessley to keep our lively group under control (in a good way). He gave us a great insite into the country and the political situation in Cuba. He also sortyed out any prpblems we had including returning stuff we left behind and helping with minor medical issues one or two of the group had

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Make sure you have good walking shoes (not trainers). Have spare hats and spare sun glasses as some will get lost and you may not be in a position to replace them for a couple of days. Sleep under the purch of the hacienda not in the tents as it is brilliant and you do not get eaten by bugs!

Do you have anything else to add?

The brochure did tell us but the food is not great in Cuba. Hoeevr surprisingly it was in the all inclusive hotels where the food was poorest. When we were in the jungle and eating in local resteraunts the food was good.

Friendly, efficient , well organised, excellent time keeping. Good at keeping the group together. Good at telling us about real life in Cuba

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Ignore the advice for a sleeping bag. Take a liner and a towel instead. Go in the Winter months if you are not keen on humidity.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Very knowledgeable. A little reserved at the start but was fully integrated with the group towards the end. Looked after us well

"A lot of time on a coach; nearly 3 full days. The final beach resort is too far from Havanna/Trinidad. One further east on the north coast would have been better.
Flights a nightmare. Explore should book direct flights with a quality airline ...... partly ruined the trip. Dates could be re scheduled to suit the flights"

Our response

Thank you for your suggestion to change the beach resort closer to Havannah/Trinidad.  Due to customer feedback, we have moved the resort to Trinidad for next year’s tours to improve customer satisfaction on this tour.  We thank you for your feedback on this.

We are sorry the flights were not to your preferred choice.  The original airline we booked the group flights for changed their days of operation. This caused us to have to change to a different airline which unfortunately incorporated an extra stop en route.

We state on both your Confirmation and Final Invoice that the flight information is subject to change and clients should refer to their final Joining Instructions for details. Overall we hope you have some good memories of your trip and the City tour in Havana sounds great.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

The ride with the taxis in Havanna, visit of Trinidad and trails in the top of collante

He did a good job (Ernesto)and he was helpful. Once in a while he could join the group more frequently

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Take enough suncream. Be aware that it is a socialist country and not every thing is functionning perfectly

Do you have anything else to add?

In Viniales the hotel was ok but not overwhelming. One reason has been that also the locals came to the pool and we had almost no space left

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

A few highlights: walking in beautiful Vinales, swimming in jungle pools (especially the Tarzan-swing!), sleeping at the haciendas, the beaches, everything about Havana, the music, the mojitos...

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Lian was brilliant. She went out of her way to make the trip so much fun for the kids. Her insights into the country, its history, traditions and politics really helped bring Cuba to life. We also had fantastic local guides in Vinales (Alexis) and the Topes de Collantes (Jack) - both were fun, upbeat and seemed to know everything!

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Lian taught us the key to enjoying your time in Cuba is to be flexible: everything works in the end, but usually not quite in the way you expected! Best to just relax and go with the Caribbean flow.

Do you have anything else to add?

Go soon, before it all changes.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

I loved all the different activities, although the salsa dancing was very tiring in the over 30 degree heat! Luckily we had lots of swimming opportunities and overall my favourite part of the trip was the natural pools which were so refreshing. We stayed in very nice hotels, with air conditioning luckily, and also in haciendas where we were made very welcome with even a birthday cake for a girl in our group whose birthday it was. The tour had a good balance as it was very active at the beginning but at the end was very relaxing with lots of time at the beach. My favourite part of the tour was the zip wiring through the forest and over a lake as it was really fun!

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

There was lots of travelling around in the coach but out tour leader, Lian, organised fun kariokes and games to make the journey more enjoyable. She was a great tour leader and really bonded with everyone in the group, especially when throwing us into the sea! Any problems we had she sorted out immediately and well.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

This tour is quite a non-stop tour (except the last few days) and in the heat it can get quite tiring, especially with the many walks, so make sure you are physically able to go on it! To understand the culture and way of life more, I would research a bit about the history and background of Cuba because then everything makes more sense wheh you're there. It is an amazing tour and I would thoroughly recommed booking it.
