What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

long journeys in a croded minibus was a downer, and Belarus has a very tragic history so if tales of massacres depress you, try somewhere else. On the positive side very interesting history, quirky still backward soviet service and minsk a soviet planned city that nearly works.
"Mud baths in Nha Trang were wonderful. Chose the communal baths which were just as good as a private one and a lot cheaper.
Really enjoyed the bike rides in Hoi An and Mai Chau, particularly visiting local houses in Hoi An and seeing the local skills.
Boat/snorkelling trip from Nha Trang was excellent.
Wonderful food throughout Vietnam.
Overnight trains a good laugh but of varying quality. Ear plugs useful to muffle noisy 'clanking' of trains and snoring of fellow passengers!
This is an excellent holiday with many varied locations. You do cram a lot in!"

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

"We had 2 tour leaders, Chinh and Tung.
Both were very helpful and informative.
Tung was very knowledgable about local history and politics."

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

"Some people had clothes/shoes made in Hoi An and were very pleased with them.
Visits to villages from Sapa, be prepared for local women crowding round the bus as soon as you arrive. Quite daunting and they will follow you for the whole walk. Very interesting to chat to and their English is excellent but be prepared for the hard sell at the end.
A budget holiday means hardly any trips are included. Be prepared for lots of extras including tips and taxi fares if you intend to do the optional excursions.
Good for those who prefer to do their own thing rather than spend a lot of time with the group.
Most places accept USD as well as Vietnamese dong but always check. Large restaurant in Hanoi (in Rough Guide) did not take USD. Last night - not enough dong, saved by the credit card!"

Do you have anything else to add?

"Itinerary is inaccurate in places - hopefully should be updated soon.
Day 9 & 13 - you need an overnight bag for the trips to Halong Bay and Mai Chau which is not mentioned.
Day 15 - Main bags have to be left in Hanoi while you spend 5 nights in Sapa and the surrounding area. Make sure you have suitable luggage to accommodate this.
Day 16 - Hotel in Sapa was damp and had mould in the rooms.
Day 17 - No village to visit, no option for traditional herbal bath, no option to shorten walk as bus unable to get to homestay due to condition of roads.
Day 19 - Market trip is actually full day trip.
Day 20 - This will always fall on a Monday when museums in Hanoi are shut. Plan to visit museums on Day 12 instead."

I have rasied your concern about Sapa hotel to our Operations Manager as we do not usually receive negative feedback about this accommodation.

We are hoping to visit the Museums in Hanoi on a different day; however there are still other museums open on a Monday such as History & The Hilton museum.

An amazing trip, full of colour and contrasts, encompassing a little bit of everything! The cities are manic and the chaotic traffic has to be seen (and heard!) to be believed. The war remnants are horrific and sobering, yet fascinating. The beaches are gorgeous, and the cruise around the islands of Halong Bay absolutely stunning. There are boat trips, bike rides, dancing and mystical temples. The food is delicious and extremely cheap. Travelling by overnight train was great fun, and maximized the opportunity to see and do even more during the day. The hilltribe extension was like stepping back in time. Gorgeous scenery, friendly locals in amazing clothes, great trekking and staying in stilt houses. Tip: If you want to have clothes made in Hoi An, take a picture of your dream outfit from a magazine – you won’t be disappointed!
