Our week in the Catalan Pyrenees was brought to life by our tour leader Maximiliano, whose passion for the landscape was infectious.  His local knowledge was invaluable in making the most of our visit.  Ascending Pic de Portarró was certainly a highlight.  Yes it really is worth the steep climb to reach the summit.  How often are you going to be sitting having a picnic above a stunning mountainous landscape, looking down on vultures as they circle?  For those who choose not to do the optional watersports, walking is really the only activity in this remote location.  The choice of menus and restaurants was varied including wild boar, trout and quails, and all readily accommodated dietary needs.  The four-wheel drive up to Estany de Lladres is an experience in its own right.  Hold tight - and you won't regret it.
