What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

So many - the biblical sites in Israel, the Dead Sea, snorkelling on the Red Sea, Petra and Wadi Rum.  However the heavy rain overnight in Wadi Rum, our attempts to waterproof the tent with plastic (which failed) and the pools of water within the tent would probably rate as unforgettable.   The green haze over the sand the next morning as the plant life appeared was probably something few groups see.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Mandy was very well organised, unflappable, and efficient and very good at imparting the relevant knowledge to the group when needed and getting everyone where they needed to be on time, which was difficult enough given the tight schedule of the tour.  She was diplomatic when dealing with any issues that arose and resolved them with the minimum of fuss, eg at the border crossings.  She got on well with everyone in the group and had good relationships with the other local guides, the hotel staff and drivers.  She also appeared to have good personal relationships with many of the Bedouins in Petra and Wadi Rum and was able to give some insight into their culture.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Be prepared for a very busy schedule - many days start early.  The walking isn't too difficult but there is a good bit of it around some of the sites - particularly in Jerusalem and Petra.  Depending on how busy it is, the length of time queueing in Jerusalem at some of the popular sites can affect the schedule.

Do you have anything else to add?

"The schedule was very busy with many early starts, and little time to relax or fully appreciate the places where we were staying.  Our group flight was delayed few people had any sleep the first night in Amman. The shorter daylight hours also meant that we arrived at the kibbutz after dark.  Likewise at the Dead Sea, we arrived just at sunset, so although we managed a float there before it got dark, we had little option but to jump straight off the bus due to another early start the next morning.  The hotel was lovely with Dead Sea Spa pools and a large swimming pool but I don't think anyone in the group managed to use the other facilities.

Overall this was a really interesting and enjoyable tour, but I feel that it requires more time to do it justice.  "

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Mandy our tour guide was fun to be with and ran the tour extremley well she had good local knowledge and interacted with all of the group. I would certainly like to tour her again, highly recomended.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

"Check the fitness rating for the tour with explore as both this holliday and my last one were book at one activity level and were upgraded in later paperwok from explore!
I had booked both tours to suit my level of fitness."

Do you have anything else to add?

The local tour guide was a waste of four days. telling the tour to follow her through crowded streets yet looking in shop and talking to people she knew, not being a tall lady it was easy to walk past her and find you had lost the guide (maybe more attention on the group and a flag would help). Darlia was our loacal guide but got opening times wrong and also got the group lost on one accation looking for a pool to swim in, the group ended up in the wrong place. Darlia was very augumentative with local people and boarder staff. Although she had a good knowledge of her subject I think we would have been better off without her.

Our response

Thank you for your feedback.

We have noted your concern over the change in grading for this tour. Since our new 2013 brochure has been released, we have changed the way we rate our tours.  Beforehand the active dots would reflect how strenuous the physical activities that took place on the tour were. Our rating you will see in our brochure and trip notes now reflect the tour pace. This means it now takes into account things like long drives, early mornings, amount of free time etc. There has been no change to the itinerary itself.
