Amazing. The archaeologist Rocio was super, she was able to get us into parts of sites not open to the public, and to get directors, architects and archaeologists to explain what they were doing. The trip is much harder than explained in the brochure, but worth the hardships. (SMX - 6th November 2010)

Prior to the tour I had little or no knowledge of the Mayan Civilisation. The archaelogical sites are simply stunning, breath taking & awe inspiring. The guest lecturer Rocio Hernandez provided expert information on all sites visted & on the Mayans generally. At the end of the tour my understanding of this incredible civilisation had increased substantially. When one considers the Mayans had no metal tools , no beasts of burden or the wheel, what they achieved is simply stunning. The sites visited, particulary the smaller sites show the great diversity of Mayan culture. I was surprised at  what I considered , to be the high standard of accomodation, try local & regional food  which is excellent. The beer in Guatemala is very good, it is over 5% alcohol. The highlight among many  on the tour was the river trip & the overnight stay in the jungle. The sounds of the jungle really come alive at night. Bring a torch & plenty of insect repellent. Make sure your US dollars are clean & in good condition or they may not be accepted. I found the cost of living higher in Mexico. The tour ends at Tulum, from the jungles of Guatemala to swimming in the Caribbean Sea, Fantastic. Unless you really want to visit the ruins at Tulum, I wouldnt'  bother, its' not worth it. Do not buy any "liquid" products at Cancun airport, it will be taken off you in the USA. There are opportunities at hotels to have laundry done. Two of the hotels had swimming pools, nice to swim at the end of a hot day, bring a towel. We saw many species of birds, a crocodile, snakes, tarantulas, monkeys & plenty of insects. The transport used was of a high standard. This trip was excellent, I cannot rate it high enough. (SMX - 6th November 2010)
