What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

I booked the holiday to walk the Inca trail to iconic Machu Picchu, what I was not prepared for was the breathtaking scenery elsewhere and the contrast between the places we visited. We went for the noisy hectic city of La Paz where you feel that getting across the road safely was a major achievement to the Isla de Sol were the only form of transport was donkeys. On the island view over Lake Titicaca to the mountains beyond that was truly amazing.  Going to the Uros islands is a must, you may get the chance to try on their colourful traditional clothing I have never seen such large pom-poms! The camaraderie in the group and support from the guides meant we all made it to the Sun Gate; the view over Machu Picchu was extraordinarily beautiful.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Jim was great he was really helpfully and knowledgable. He was very supportive on the walks, his advice to walk slowly due to the altitude and temperature should be listened to. His comment " Just one more challenge" seemed to get said an awful lot on the Inca trail!

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Take moisturiser and lip salve as the air is very drying. On the Inca trail you can use walking poles but they must have rubber tips makes sure you take some + spares

Do you have anything else to add?

"This was my first big solo adventure I booked it with excitment but some apprehension.
Did the holiday disappoint it certainly did not,  will I be going on another big adventure with Explore – you bet!"

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Gosh - so many to choose from!  Perhaps the chance to go white water rafting, which I had never done before.  In terms of sites and spectacles it must be Machu Picchu. Also highly recommend the train trip to Cusco which I added to my itinerary locally.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Fine - I have had 5 so far, all very good to excellent.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Yes - do not take a water bottle (as advised) as you will be recommended to use only bottled water.  Also realise that excursions etc have to be paid in dollars (the currency in which they are denominated).

Do you have anything else to add?

No but note that I recently sent some general comments to Explore - mainly about demonstrating that one has met the insurance requirements and also about the advice given in respect of currencies.
