Waking along the Lycian Way in brilliant sunshine. Friends infront, friends behind. Smelling the scents of thyme, sage, marjoram and warm yellow broom. Ancient Roman stonework round every corner and glimpses of blue, blue Mediterranean between the pine trees. Heaven!
How was your Explore Tour Leader?
Dave our leader was endlessly patient with a good sense of humour. He is dedicated to the area, in particular the Lycian Way and passes on his love and knowledge of the countryside. He is well liked by the locals, which means that you are treated as Dave's friend not a tourist, especially nice in the small villages off the beaten track.
What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?
The walking is described as 'easy'. That is walkers' talk. For ordinary mortals who are not used to walking holidays you may think the rocky terrain and scree is more 'medium'. Take the advice given by Explore and wear walking boots. You may find a walking stick useful. You generally have the chance to go for a dip in the sea at the end of a walk. Take it. Really helps the muscles and the swimming is fantastic.
Do you have anything else to add?
There is always something special about an Explore holiday. Hard to put your finger on it, but it generally boils down to feeling like a traveller not a tourist. This holiday lived up to that 'Explore'feeling.
