Travelling responsibly has always been at the heart of everything we do and this has been recognised by the awards and accolades we have received. Voting is now open for the Virgin Holidays 2011 Responsible Tourism Awards, awards in which we have previously won Best Tour Operator. This year we're hoping to be nominated in the Best Tour Operator for Local Experiences category.
To us Responsible Tourism means:
- We work to ensure people who work for Explore are treated fairly and paid a fair wage
- We learn about and respect the customs and culture of the country we are visiting so that we do not offend local people
- We ensure that local people benefit economically from tourism by employing them as leaders and guides, eating out in local restaurants and using family-run hotels where possible
- We minimise our impact on the environment by travelling in small groups, offsetting our carbon emissions, reducing waste and supporting conservation projects
We were the first tour operator to offset the carbon used in all staff and customer flights and we support charities around the world - take a look at the range of charities we support.
