Many people gave up their summer holidays this year to stay home and watch the Olympics and Paralympics. If you fall into this group, or if you just want a late getaway, our Product Team have a few ideas for you. They create all of the holidays we offer so they know a thing or two about where’s good to escape to in October!
"If I could go on Holiday now I would go to Oman on the Arabian Sands tour. It’s the best time of year to visit the Arabian peninsula - there's guaranteed sunshine but it's not too hot. Also, meteor showers are common at this time of year making camping in the desert even more special. Unwind by swimming in the azure waters of the Arabian Sea spending a night aboard a Dhow, a traditional wooden sail boat. If you fancy a colder climate and not such a long flight then I would recommend a trip to Iceland. NASA predicts that this winter there will be the brightest display of the northern lights for more than 50 years."

"My favourite place to be in the autumn is Nepal. Once the monsoon has finished, the skies are bright and clear revealing the best views of the 8000m peaks that surround the trekking routes. The days are warm and nights not yet too cold. If I can’t be in Nepal then I would choose neighbouring India where the searing summer temperatures have dropped to a level perfect to explore the dramatic Moghul architecture of Rajasthan or the chilled out atmosphere of Kerala."

"October is the start of the season in Patagonia. This region includes both Argentina and Chile and probably has the most beautiful landscapes I have been lucky enough to view. The wild and wonderful Torres del Paine National Park is a must and is included on all of our Patagonia trips. November is also a fantastic time to explore New Zealand. Whilst in the UK we are starting to prepare for winter, it is springtime in the southern hemisphere so you can expect good weather to explore the country’s stunning great outdoors."

"October is a great time to be in Turkey, as the extreme heat and crowds are gone. It is an especially good time to take a walking holiday, and Turkey has a lot to offer. Two areas that are particularly enjoyable in the autumn are the surreal volcanic landscape of Cappadocia and the beautiful Turquoise Coast. End of October and early November sees the end of the ‘green season’ in Central America and the Caribbean, and the beginning of the ‘dry season’ which continues through to April. Explore offer a wide range of tours throughout this region, which include cultural, wildlife and cycling holidays."

"Morocco is a great country to visit in autumn if you are looking for an exotic but affordable destination. In October and November the temperature is ideal for walking and cycling in the Atlas Mountains or to explore the intriguing Sahara Desert. Morocco is also very rich in culture; visiting iconic cities such as Marrakech, Fes and Rabat is much easier once the heat is gone! We offer a full range of holidays to suit all tastes from budget accommodation and characterful hotels to comfortable hand-picked riads. Whatever option you decide to go for, I am sure you will experience the warm welcome of Moroccan people. If you are looking for a long haul destination, I would highly recommend South Africa. It is still whale-watching season at this time of the year; observing these beautiful creatures emerging from the ocean in Hermanus and playing just a short distance from you is an incredible spectacle. Explore Cape Town, cycle along the Garden Route, take a walk in the vineyards of Stellenbosch to sample wine or head to the Eastern Cape to observe the big game in Kruger National Park. Most importantly, don’t forget that the seasons in South Africa run opposite to the northern hemisphere and there is nothing better than travelling somewhere sunny while it’s getting chilly in the UK!"
