Atlantic Rowing Challenge

Explore is proud and slightly awed, to be working with and supporting two incredible women, Annie Januszewski and Mel King. This courageous pair competed in the 2009 WoodVale Challenge Atlantic Rowing Race, one of the world’s toughest endurance events and were the only female pair out of around 30 teams taking part in the epic journey from La Gomera in the Canary Isles to Antigua in the Caribbean.

Where are they now?

Annie & Mel finished their race on 22nd March 2010 after 78 days at sea - what an achievement!

The Cause

Annie and Mel rowed to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. You can help them reach their target by sponsoring them here.

Our Involvement

We always believe in being more than just a logo on the side of a vehicle, so have tried to help Annie and Mel where possible with kit for use before and during the race, booking accommodation for their support crew in La Gomera and making use of our contacts where we can.

We’ve also took over their communications in the UK for the race itself. The girls blogged regularly via satellite communications from the boat, all of which is posted here on this site.

Explore Rowathon

Because we’re a hell of a team here at Explore, we broke sweat too by completing a rowathon in our offices on a great Waterrower machine – raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Annie’s chosen charity. If you’d like to donate to Macmillan, we and the girls would be extremely grateful.

Rowathon Results:

Explore staff rowed a total of 122,315m over 9hours55mins. That is still only about 2.5% of the total that Annie & Mel had to row across the Atlantic! If you think all that is worth a small donation to Macmillan - please donate below.
