Explore is proud and slightly awed, to be working with and supporting two incredible women, Annie Januszewski and Mel King. This courageous pair is competing in the 2009 WoodVale Challenge Atlantic Rowing Race, one of the world’s toughest endurance events and is the only female pair out of around 30 teams taking part in the epic journey from La Gomera in the Canary Isles to Antigua in the Caribbean.
Where are they now?
Track Annie and Mel online here.
The Cause
Annie and Mel are rowing to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. You can help them reach their target by sponsoring them here.
Our Involvement
We always believe in being more than just a logo on the side of a vehicle, so have tried to help Annie and Mel where possible with kit for use before and during the race, booking accommodation for their support crew in La Gomera and making use of our contacts where we can.
We’ve also taken over their communications in the UK for the race itself. The girls will be blogging regularly, maybe even with photos, via satellite communications from the boat, all of which will be posted here on this site. You can also send them a text message of support, or ask a question perhaps and lastly keep an eye on their progress via the tracking map here.
Explore Rowathon
Because we’re a hell of a team here at Explore, we broke sweat too by completing a rowathon in our offices on a great Waterrower machine – raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Annie’s chosen charity. If you’d like to donate to Macmillan, we and the girls would be extremely grateful.
Rowathon Results:
Team Atlantic won by just 23m. Explore staff rowed a total of 122,315m over 9hours55mins. That is still only about 2.5% of the total that Annie & Mel will have to row across the Atlantic! If you think all that is worth a small donation to Macmillan - please donate below.

Get InvolvedAnnie and Mel had been campaigning tirelessly to get their dream afloat, but it's not over yet. They still need funds for a hotel in Antugua and flights home. If you would like to help them, you can donate directly to their campaign using paypal. Help keep Annie & Mel's dream afloat.
Getting Home
They have made it to the starting line - but how will they get back?
If Annie & Mel win, British Airways have promised to fly them home. This is part of their Great Britons campaign where they award free flights to British talent in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
More about British Airways' promise.
