Experience a Solar Eclipse

To witness a total solar eclipse is perhaps the natural world’s most awesome and dramatic showpiece. The sheer excitement of watching the eclipse move through its various stages, culminating in ‘totality’ when Earth is plunged into darkness and stars become visible, can only really be appreciated first hand. Only a small region of the earth will see a total eclipse, but observers in the nearby regions will see a partial eclipse.

Best viewing positions

Explore have been eclipse chasing for over 10 years now following the event all around the world; running tours to China, Russia, Ghana, Libya, Egypt and many more in recent years. As Explore operate tours in well over a hundred countries, we are able to arrange our eclipse holidays in the best viewing positions on earth. The best locations for the eclipse will be chosen by our specialist team, based on their expert knowledge they take into consideration local cloud cover statistics and locate a great viewing spot, during previous eclipses we have even been able set up camps especially for the occasion.

Expert astronomers

Beyond experiencing the excitement of the eclipse as it progresses through its various stages, our tours will also combine an exploration of the country or region of the world you are visiting. Many of our tours will also be accompanied by an expert astronomer, who will share their wealth of knowledge and eclipse viewing tips with you on your tour.
Dr Francisco Diego and Andrew Green are to fully accompany two of our upcoming China and Easter Island eclipse tours.

When's the next Eclipse?

For those of you who weren’t able to make the journey to Easter Island, or who made the trip and have a yearning for more, then the next total solar eclipse will be in Australia in November 2012. Keep an eye on our website in the autumn for a chance to book Explore’s trips to Australia to view the next total solar eclipse.
