Wildlife spotting is also world-class, from minke whales settling in the waters south of the Antarctic Convergence during summer, to penguins, plodding amusingly across the islands.
And something to keep in mind: although technology has improved in leaps and bound over the years, this is still expedition cruising and some of the crossings do become a little rocky - but it's all part of the adventure.
