When to Travel

Botswana’s climate is typical of southern Africa with long dry spells and warm temperatures ideal for safari for much of the year. November to April brings the rains andmuch-needed relief to the dry landscape. Crowds are less, and prices cheaper, at this time of year.

WILDLIFE, LANDSCAPES, WETLANDS

Nearly a fifth of Botswana’s landscape is devoted to the protection of its indigenous wildlife. Brimming with life and colour, it boasts some of the Earth’s most unforgiving habitats as well as its most luscious wetlands. Expect to be awed by the big game and flocks of birds who make the Delta their home.

Meet Linzi Summers, Regional Specialist for Botswana

For a true safari experience Botswana is hard to beat; wide open space, islands of lush green vegetation and a true feeling of being in the heart of Africa. Pole through the shallow waters of the Okavango Delta passing giant lily pads with tiny green frogs clinging to the reeds, quietly spying wildlife as  you pass by. There’s the unexpected smell of the potato bush, vibrant  bee-eaters and kingfishers flitting along the riverbanks and huge noisy flocks of roosting birds at dusk. Add to this the thrill of tracking wildlife-rich savannahs and clinging tightly as your driver spots a predator on the horizon, canoeing along the rivers, fly–camping at night, dining alfresco under the stars and flying low over herds of elephants as they walk across the plains below and you have an exciting, unique African safari. Botswana is exciting, remote and at night-time the stars are brilliant and there’s not a sound to be heard…..

“A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE HIGHLIGHTS FROM BOTSWANA”

Bushman Experience

tm_botswana_high2

“The Kalahari Bushmen know the desert like the back of their hand.  You can make the most of their knowledge by spending the night  in one of their villages; learning about their customs over a traditional flame-cooked meal."

  Selinda Canoe Trails

tm_botswana_high3

"For over 30 years the Selinda Spillway has been bone dry: now it has flooded in full and the only  way to see the area is by canoe. Spend four days paddling gently downstream, making impromptu camps on the river’s banks at night."

  Walking Safaris

“Venturing out on foot in northern Botswana will really bring the bush to life! On the private land in Linyanti you will have exclusive access to professional guides
who can help ensure you have safe sightings of elephants, buffaloes and lions - vehicle free.."
