Itinerary Suggestions for Laos

When to Travel

The cool season from November to February is a good time to visit with comfortable temperatures for travelling. Between March and May temperatures rise to 40°C and from June to October you can
expect brief afternoon rain showers.

TRANQUILLITY, HISTORY, TEMPLES

Laos is celebrated for its pleasant cities, friendly people and beautiful scenery; it’s also a lesser-trodden path in South East Asia. Explore lush jungles by foot or elephant, enjoy a drink of Lao-Lao with hilltribe villagers, swim in pools beneath beautiful waterfalls and visit exquisite golden temples.

Meet Chris Ellis, Regional Specialist for Laos

Laos, a country often forgotten on most peoples South-East Asian journeys, is a hidden gem in the Indochina Crown. This country is known for its warm, friendly locals and laid-back atmosphere, but also hosts a huge number of sights that will stay in peoples memories long after their departure. Luang Prabang, a UNESCO world heritage site, is a small charming city with its colonial character buildings, beautiful temples and serene atmosphere. It’s surrounding areas includes beautiful waterfalls, caves and minority villages, but if it’s a touch of adventure you are after, head south to Pakse and the Bolaven Plateau for the 4000 islands, elephant trekking and a chance to spot Irrawady dolphins.

“A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE LAOS HIGHLIGHTS”

Hilltribe Villages

tm_laos_high3a

“Stay with hilltribe villagers and learn all about their customs and traditions. Some of the villages still have a trade each, so you can gain an insight into how paper is made in the San Khong and visit the blacksmiths village of Ban Hat Hien.

Waterfalls

"Laos is famed for its waterfalls. Located on the Boloven Plateau in southern  Laos, the twin falls of Tad Fane plummet 200m through lush jungle. Walk trails, swim in pools or ride elephants through the jungle to get the best views.."

Four Thousand Islands

“Four Thousand Islands is where the Mekong splits to create a maze of channels and where it reaches its widest point. Explore by boat, relax in a hammock, enjoy a drink floating in the Mekong and, hopefully, catch site of Irawaddy river dolphins in this unique environment
