Our basic level accommodation can offer the most rewarding and memorable places to stay. These are usually communal or camping style with shared facilities. Running hot and cold water may be unreliable and overall comfort levels are basic.
Explore’s philosophy has always been to find the accommodation that fits the itinerary, not the other way round. So when we travel to a place with no hotels, lodges or guesthouses, we’ll either camp or find whatever basic accommodation there is. In Egypt for example in the early 1980s we pioneered the first journeys down the Nile by felucca, where we camped on the river banks because there was nowhere else to stay. In Morocco’s Atlas Mountains we stay in village houses, mountain shelters and in tents. On the Saint Paul Trail in Turkey we are royally welcomed as guests in simple village house along the way.
