I’ve had so many great holidays I don’t think I could pinpoint just one, but Uganda and Peru are definitely up there. Both of these were very hands-on trips, getting right under the skin of the country and immersing oneself into the local culture. The people in Uganda where so friendly and welcoming, and the experience of getting up close to a silverback gorilla will remain with me forever. Walking the Inca trail and seeing Machu Picchu for the first time will also be experience that stays with me.

For my next adventure I really want a major challenge. I would love to conquer Kilimanjaro or trek to Everest Base Camp - something that will take me out of my comfort zone but also bring a sense of personal achievement as well as new experiences.

Wherever I travel I love trying out the local cuisine. In Vietnam once I was sitting in a western-style bar when I met another traveller. We were both hungry and wondering where to eat when we spied a local curb-side establishment (I wouldn’t even go so far as to say it was a restaurant). It was very busy with locals so we decided to venture over. No one spoke English, so we spent the first ten minutes pointing at other plates around us suggesting what we wanted, as well as perfecting our chicken, cow and pig noises to try and order some meat dishes. I have absolutely no idea what we ate, but it was absolutely delicious and cost next to nothing. It was a real adventure in my book.
