What is your favourite holiday destination?
Tricky question. I would have to say Cuba. I loved Cuba from the minute I arrived in Havana with its colonial architecture, old American cars, infectious music and buzzing street life. Contrasting with the rural Viñales with tobacco and sugar plantations where I went horse riding through the plantation hills before stopping at a beautiful waterfall to sample the best mojitos I have ever tasted. Staying in casa particular gave me a greater understanding about Cuban life and I was struck by the warmth and friendliness of the local people who taught us to Salsa in their front room and took us to a local music festival in the caves.
Where would I like to go next?
Galápagos Islands – I am saving my pennies.
Write a journal, or at least note down the highlights -where you have been, who you met, what you saw. I did this when I went travelling in 1997 and it’s great to look back and reminisce and remember where I visited nearly twenty years.
