Favourite holiday destination?

South America is unbeatable for me – the people, the markets, the food and the language are so varied, and I love how expressive and warm the locals are. At the moment my favourite destination would be Bolivia – it's such a bonkers country from the llama foetuses in the witches market to the adrenaline rush that is biking down the ‘Most Dangerous Road in the World’. I was completely blown away by the salt plains, I’ve still never seen anything like them in the world.

Where would you like to go next?

I’ve always wanted to go to Nepal. I love hiking and trekking, and being in the Himalayas would be a dream for me. I’ve just read ‘Into Thin Air’, which is a true story written by a journalist who was on Everest at the time of the great disaster of 1996 when a storm killed most of the summit climbers. Its an amazing story, and it hasn’t put me off, but I’ll treat the mountains with respect!

Best piece of travel advice?

My best piece of advice would be not to be scared to drop the travel books, forget your plan, and go off piste. This can force you into surprising situations – getting real local advice on where to try that speciality that you’re looking for, or finding yourself beating yourself a path up to the top of that hill just because it looks like it has good views. Being the only tourist in an area automatically means that people want to show you the best of what their town has to offer, so make sure you talk to them and get to the heart of your holiday destination.
