What's your favourite holiday destination?
My favourite holiday destination has to be Spain. Blue skies, relaxed, friendly and fun, great food and wine, rich in culture and history, plus stunning mountain scenery (Europe’s second most mountainous country!). I lived there for 10 years and nowadays get to travel back at least once a year. Slowly but surely I am visiting every region.
Where would you like to go next?
Japan – it looks fascinating, like a country from the future and past at the same time and entirely different from home.
Best piece of travel advice?
If you want to come home from holiday feeling you’ve really got under the skin of the country you’re visiting, my advice is to do everything you can to meet the local people, as often as you can and for as long as you can. Take any opportunity to wander off piste and strike up conversation with as many random people as you can, don’t be shy! Speaking at least a few words of the local language helps too, along with any ice-breakers you can think of (card tricks, photos of home, etc.)
