It's not on everyone's list, and it is a while since I was there as a Tour Leader in the mid-90's, but I loved the time I spent in northern Pakistan. A journey along the Karakorum Highway remains one of the world’s most iconic and adventurous road trips. The mountain scenery is spectacular - there is one viewpoint where the Hindu Kush, Himalaya and Karakoram mountain ranges converge, which was always a popular photo-stop. My highlights - eating probably the world's best curry at a truck stop and then taking a refreshing, and very quick, dip in the glacial waters of the Indus.
Sudan - having spent over a year in Egypt I want to continue my journey along the Nile and continue to Khartoum.
If I was asked for a single piece of travel advice I’d say be adventurous – choose restaurants frequented by locals, rather than tourists, and try searching for places off the beaten track. In my experience the best and most lasting memories are the unexpected surprises that ‘just happen’ when you try being a bit more adventurous - on an Explore tour we know them as "the Explore twists".
