"Responsible In Everything We Do". One of our five core values here at Explore. Being a responsible company is a large statement, something that has to be entwined within the very fibre of a company. Whilst we aren't perfect, we have been working for over 35 years to continually improve, evolve and lead the way in sustainable tourism.
Each year we review the charities and projects that we support overseas, and find new ways of working alongside our agents and tour leaders to help empower the local communities we visit.
One of the most exciting times in our calendar is asking agents and leaders alike for their "Start Up Fund" ideas. We receive proposals to start a brand new project from scratch that will become self sufficient within a year. The projects will employ and benefit local communities and make use of existing local skills and resources. A great Start Up Fund success story, is that of 'Spread the Love' in Borneo. The idea was to enable a community to use their surplus of pineapples and tomatoes by providing funding for culinary courses, sales training and jam jars. Eighteen months later and 'Spread the Love' are selling their chutneys and jams in the international airport! Other sustainable projects include bamboo fields in Malawi, looms purchased for women's cooperatives in Morocco and funding for irrigation systems to be built at a small vegetable farm in Ghana. The projects are worldwide, and with small investments we are thrilled to see the positive impacts rippling through some of the villages we love to visit.
On top of charities that are supported financially, we sponsor many which our customers can visit or support whilst on tour and truly appreciate the work that is being done. Two such examples are Dekamer in Turkey and the Mua Mission in Malawi.
Below are links to some of the wonderful projects and charities that we are very proud to support.
