In accordance with International Porters Protection Group, Explore is striving to ensure that porters working on Kilimanjaro are paid a fair wage, given appropriate meals, provided with adequate equipment and do not carry excessive loads.
Explore supports the work of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) wholeheartedly. At the end of every trek customers have the opportunity to donate their used equipment to their group's porters if they wish to do so. Our Tour Leaders collect all the donations and take them to KPAP, where they will be used again. This is a fair and equitable means of ensuring that porters have access to suitable equipment and clothing, allowing them to safely operate on Kilimanjaro.
If customers travelling on our tours have any sturdy footwear or warm clothing that they no longer want, they are welcome to bring it on tour with them – it can then be passed to the porters through KPAP.
