The Explore Way

Our code of conduct
Read more
It's important to us at Explore that we are as responsible as possible. We've made a number of commitments to ensure animals and local people are protected and respected on our tours.

If you have any questions around these please contact us on sustainability@explore.co.uk.
  • We support ethical establishments by avoiding places that sell parts of endangered animals (like ivory) or animals treated cruelly (like shark fin soup)
  • Commercial sex work and activities and illegal drug use are strongly prohibited on our trips
  • We believe in fair employment practices for all: those we directly work with, as well as anyone helping with the running of our trips
  • Classrooms are for learning – that’s why we only visit schools where interaction doesn’t disrupt the lesson and is beneficial for students. We don’t visit orphanages for the same reason
  • Respect is a key part of our trips: respect for the communities we meet, the habitats we explore, laws and traditions of the countries we visit. We ask that you and our Explore Leaders act the same way
  • Cultural traditions often involve the giving and receiving of gifts, but we never accept gifts, hospitality or expenses as a form of bribery
  • All animals deserve to be treated with dignity, and we don’t believe entertainment should come at the expense of this. We endeavour to only include wildlife-based activities out in the wild or visits to places in which animals exhibit natural behaviours in environments as close to their homes as possible such as Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand.
  • Ethical business choices are at the core of everything we do, including preventing modern slavery and human trafficking, and we don’t work with any business that engages in these practices
  • Our employees are honest and careful in the way they work, and we ask our staff and customers to feel confident that they can report anything untoward to us as soon as possible
