6 of the best places to visit in Cuba

From the verdant oasis of Valle de Vinales to the mighty Escambray Mountains and lively streets of Havana, here are six of the best places to visit in Cuba.

Trinidad

Step back in time to explore some of Cuba's best-preserved colonial streets in the UNESCO listed Spanish colonial town of Trinidad on our Cuba Libre tour. Wander through a rainbow of colourful buildings and explore charming plazas shaded by mature palm trees. Listen to live music at Casa de la Musica, and burn off some energy with an upbeat salsa dance lesson before kicking back with an ice-cold mojito in a streetside bar.

Escambrey Mountains

Escape the hustle and bustle with a trip to Topes de Collantes nature reserve in Cuba's remote Escambray Mountains. Well known for its incredible beauty, this lush and verdant landscape is best explored by foot or on two wheels. Jump in the saddle for a thrilling descent through the jungle on our Cuba By Bicycle tour.

Topes de Collantes

Travel inland to Topes de Collantes Nature Reserve Park, famous for its many endemic species of flora and fauna, where stay for two nights in a hacienda on our Cuba Libre tour. Here you can hike to waterfalls and take a dip, and take an exhilarating swim in an open cave. Take in the local knowledge from your guide about the area's flauna and fauna, including colourful hummingbirds, orchids and medicine plants.

Santiago

Head to Cuba's second city, Santiago, on our Classic Cuba tour, to discover pastel-coloured colonial buildings and fascinating history. A trip to the Plaza de la Revolucion will reveal tales of the heroes from the Independence Wars and you can pay homage to lost soldiers at the Moncada Barracks where bullet holes on the outside of the building remind us of the city's troubled past. Today, though, the city is vibrant and full of life. Sample some delicious Cuban rum at the Museo Del Ron or dance the night away with traditional salsa lessons.

Valle de Vinales

Trek through the Valle de Vinales on our Cuba Highlights on Foot tour to uncover lush scenery peppered with limestone mogotes jutting out of the fertile crimson soils. A hot-spot for tobacco crops, visit a small farm to learn how tobacco is grown, harvested and made into Cuba's famed fat cigars. End the day with a relaxing evening in our comfortable homestay where you can get to know your hosts and practise the local lingo.

Havana

Probably Cuba's most well-known city, discover colourful art-deco houses and faded colonial streets in Havana. Vintage Cadillacs roll through town and live music fills the narrow alleyways. Visit Morro Castle, known as the gateway to Cuba, and walk up to the lighthouse for far-reaching views over the city. Then unwind with a chilled daiquiri in a local bar and soak up the relaxed atmosphere of this easy-going city.
