Exploring the Best of Tunisia: A Journey into the Sahara and Beyond

If you're a seeker of untouched landscapes and untamed beauty, then Tunisia's Sahara Desert should be high on your travel bucket list. Read on to discover Rachael's first-hand experience on the Best of Tunisia trip.

If you're a seeker of untouched landscapes and untamed beauty, then Tunisia's Sahara Desert should be high on your travel bucket list. My highlight on an unforgettable journey through Tunisia for me was undoubtedly the mesmerising experience of venturing into the heart of the Sahara.

Our adventure began with the anticipation of immersing ourselves in the remote desert landscape. As we arrived at our desert camp, surrounded by endless stretches of golden sand dunes, I knew this was going to be a moment to remember. Climbing the dunes beside our camp to witness the sunset was a breath-taking spectacle. The undulating ridges sculpted by the wind, the occasional darting of desert lizards leaving delicate imprints in the sand – it was a scene straight out of a dream.

The desert camp itself was a haven of comfort amidst the vast wilderness. With ample outdoor seating, we indulged in stargazing sessions under the unpolluted night sky, marvelling at the splendour of the Milky Way.

And the cherry on top? Our tents were equipped with ensuite toilets, blending luxury seamlessly with the rugged beauty of the Sahara.

While the Sahara stole the show, our journey through Tunisia was filled with other memorable experiences. Exploring El Djem, home to the largest Roman amphitheatre outside of Italy, was nothing short of magnificent.

With minimal crowds, we had the privilege of wandering through this ancient marvel at our own pace, soaking in its grandeur.

The quaint streets of Sidi Bou Said beckoned with their charm, adorned with vibrant bougainvillea draping over blue and white buildings. From the elevated vantage points, we savoured panoramic views of the Gulf of Tunis, a picturesque scene straight from a postcard.

Of course, no exploration of Tunisia would be complete without indulging in its culinary delights. From the succulent sweetness of Deglet Nour dates, revered as the finest in the world, to the irresistible allure of makroudh, each bite was a revelation of Tunisian flavours.

And let's not forget the ubiquitous brik, crispy pastries filled with a variety of delectable ingredients, and the refreshing abundance of freshly squeezed orange juices – every meal was a celebration of local produce and traditions.

As I reflect on my journey through Tunisia, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to immerse myself in its diverse landscapes, rich history, and culinary delights. Whether you're drawn to the Sahara or the cultural treasures scattered across the country, Tunisia promises an adventure like no other.
