I’ve been to the Golden Triangle

If you’ve already visited the highlights of the Golden Triangle and are looking to see more of what the country has to offer, why not head south to visit a very different part of the country? Kerala is famous for its spicy curries made with coconut, beautiful Indian Ocean beaches, quiet backwaters and friendly homestays; on our Kerala Backwaters trip you’ll get to visit colourful multicultural Kochi and spend time with a local family, on a traditional houseboat and in the cool Hill Stations. You could also take in the port city of Kochi on a food tour of Kerala, formerly the heart of the world spice trade. 

I’d love to see more wildlife

The tigers of Ranthambore are India’s most popular wildlife-spotting experience, but the country is replete with beautiful national parks which are home to all manner of amazing wildlife. I prefer an active holiday

India’s terrible traffic might hamper exploring its crowded cities, but outside of built up areas the roads are quiet and connected by plenty of well-defined trails. If sightseeing on foot is more your thing, consider a walking holiday around the forests and grasslands of the mountainous Western Ghats on our On Foot in Kerala trip. You’ll explore the tranquil backwaters by houseboat, walk through friendly villages and trek among the plantations that surround one of India’s highest peaks, Meesapulimala. I’m really interested in history

From the Taj Mahal to the years of the viceroys, India’s history is brimming with fascinating legends. One of the best places to visit to learn more about India’s long and fascinating past is the state of Rajasthan – the land of the Maharajahs. Tracing the old camel caravan routes, discover clifftop forts, ornate temples and colourful trade centres that have stood the test of time. On this trip you’ll visit Jaipur’s City Palace, where the current maharajah still resides; visit the ancient desert city of Jaisalmer; wander around Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur and relax on the banks of Udaipur’s shimmering Lake Pichola. Why not also take in the stunning port city of Kochi on a food tour of Kerala? Formerly the heart of the world spice trade.

I’d like to go somewhere a bit different

For an off-beat (or even off-grid) location, India has plenty of choices. Central India is a fantastic choice if you’re interested in history and getting to know a different side of the country. Visiting Mumbia, the Buddhist cave paintings of Ajanta, the temples of Ellora and the ancient capitals of Hampi and Hospet, our Treasures of Central India trip ticks all of the ‘off the beaten track’ boxes, and finishes with time on the beach in Goa.
