International Beer Day: 6 Best places to enjoy a pint

From a quaint town surrounded by the epic Dolomites mountains to the base of Machu Picchu, there are some truly unforgettable places to enjoy a pint of beer. Read on to discover our favourite places for craft beer this International Beer Day.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

In the bustling heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, you’ll find one of Vietnam’s very first microbreweries. East West Brewing Company offers the opportunity to try sliders of 4 or 10 beers, ranging from classic pale ale to an aromatic and fruity Saigon rosé. Better still, the food menu beautifully blends both Western and Vietnamese comfort food, putting a unique twist on pub snacks. As you embark on a journey inside Vietnam, you’ll have the opportunity to visit East West Brewing Company during your time in Ho Chi Minh City.

Llandudno, Wales

After a day of coastal walking on the rugged Great Orme headland, there’s nothing like quenching your thirst with a local brew. Nestled in the scenic surroundings of Llandudno you’ll find the cosy Tapps micropub, home to a wide range of lagers, IPAs and pale ales. Embark on a North Wales adventure and you’ll be treated to a talk by the Wild Horse Brewing Company at Tapps, before trying their selection of beers inspired by the US craft beer revolution.

Aguas Calientes, Peru

While trekking to the magnificent Sun Gate of Machu Picchu is a reward in itself, we recommend topping it off with a well-deserved ice cold cusqueña in Aguas Calientes. This all-malt lager was born in 1911 using pure water from the Andes mountains, and boasts a sweet and citric taste with an intense caramel colour. At the end of your Inca Trail trek you’ll find a great place to unwind with a chilled beer, all surrounded by the rolling hillsides.

Tanzania, Kilimanjaro

Having scaled the epic Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa’s highest mountain at 5,895m) via the Lemosho route, you’ll return to the cosy Weru Weru River Lodge, complete with mountain views and a relaxing swimming pool. As you reflect on your fantastic achievement, enjoy the namesake Kilimanjaro beer. With a refreshing, crisp flavour this premium lager is smooth and idyllic for those after a light taste. Want to try something stronger? Konyagi is a Tanzanian white spirit made from pure cane juice.

Dobbiaco, Italy

On a Dolomites hiking tour the family-run Hotel Sonne Sole will become your base. Located in the quaint town of Dobbiaco and surrounded by picture-perfect mountain views, it’s a beautiful spot to rest your feet and enjoy a beer after a day of trekking. Italian classics include Moretti, an authentically Italian full-bodied lager first brewed in 1859, and Peroni, a crisp and refreshing lager with notes of citrus.

Magog, Canada

In the eastern townships of Canada, microbreweries have boomed in popularity, creating a route of small breweries and brewpubs through the Quebec Province. As we admire the fall colours from Montreal to Boston we’ll visit the town of Magog, where there’s plenty of opportunity to stop off at independent brew pubs along the way. The cosy La Memphré microbrasserie provides the perfect place to enjoy both unique and classic craft beer, all accompanied by views overlooking Lake Memphremagog.
