Adventure Travel on the Rise

Demand for adventure travel on the rise, despite Britain’s heat wave. Despite being Britain’s hottest July in years, demand for overseas adventure travel is on the rise, according to adventure travel experts Explore.

Latest booking figures from Explore reveal that demand for adventure tours  is already up six percent this month, compared to July 2012; while demand for family holidays departing in August and tours to Western Europe (including Spain) also remain particularly strong. Interest in cycling tours to Europe has also accelerated, with bookings up 45 percent in the month so far, compared to 2012.

Managing Director of Explore, Ashley Toft says it’s positive to see such growing interest in adventure travel.

“We’ve seen demand increase right across the board throughout the summer, from hiking and cycling to multi-activity holidays, demonstrating that more and more customers - and increasingly families - are now looking for an active break when choosing their holiday.

“Given the exceptional weather in the UK this month - with temperatures hotter than in many parts of Europe, and summer holiday bookings for some operators actually decreasing this month - it’s interesting that so many people are still opting for adventure breaks.

“By offering tours to suit all ages, interests and abilities, Explore aims to make adventure travel accessible to as many customers as possible – and these latest figures certainly indicate this is having a positive effect.”
