Danum Valley, Borneo

As we head deeper into the protected Danum Valley in Borneo, we get the chance to witness the vitality and splendour of a primary rainforest that has been largely untouched by man. Giant Dipterocarpaceae trees, some as high as 70 metres, tower above us, and orangutans swing through the branches in search of food. We'll get up early to watch the forest stir and to see the sun cast its golden light over the canopy. Bird song echoes through the dense jungle foliage and families of endemic Proboscis monkey begin to forage for a feast of fresh fruit. Not a bad way to start the day!

Sri Lanka's Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve is a World Heritage Site of evergreen virgin rainforest. Join a local expert for a guided walk along forested trails to learn about endemic plants, birds and animal-life within the tropical thicket. Purple-faced leaf monkey can be heard calling through the forest, and see if you can spot Sri Lankan Reed Frog in the freshwater streams. Rain is frequent in this damp and humid biosphere, but the upside of all this water is the picture-perfect pearly-white waterfalls cascading through the verdant oasis.
