Small group and self-guided cycling tours to France

Take a cycle holiday in France to enjoy the scenic beauty, enchanting culture, delicious food and fine wine the French countryside has to offer.

We offer small group cycling tours in France, ranging from easy to moderate in difficulty and which use hybrid-style bicycles (e-bikes are available for an extra cost on most trips). Most rides are led by a local leader with expert knowledge about the area. The leader is on hand to guide you along the route and organise anything like transport and optional excursions, making your cycling holiday run smoothly. So whether you're riding solo or with a friend or partner, you'll have other like-minded cyclists with you to share the journey with.

If you'd prefer to cycle without a group we also offer self-guided cycling holidays to France. On these trips you won't have a leader, but we will set the routes and provide you digital (GPX) and printed with maps. We'll also sort your accommodation and transfers, so all you have to do is saddle up and enjoy the ride.

You'll get to discover the attractions by bike, as well as spending time off the saddle for activities like wine-tasting - a must in this region.

What to expect on a cycling tour to France

We've answered the most commonly asked questions about our cycling holidays in France:

When is the best time the go on a cycling holiday in France?

In general, the best time to visit is between April and October as the weather will be mostly warm and dry. However, be aware that temperatures can get very high in the south of France, so you may want to go in spring or autumn to avoid the hottest months. The climate does vary depending on the region of France you visit, so check the country information section on a trip page to get a better idea of the best time to go.

How difficult are the cycling tours in France?

The difficulty grade of our cycling holidays in France range from Easy to Moderate. Check the trip page to find out its grade. The Easy cycling holidays generally cover flat terrain on well-maintained paths so you don't need to have a lot of cycling experience, or have done a cycling holiday before. The Moderate trips cover longer distances each day and some hillier terrain.

Are bikes provided?

Yes, hybrid-style bicycles are included in the price of our cycling trips. These generally have front suspension and 21 gears, but models can vary depending on the trip. For an additional cost you have the option of hiring an electric bike (e-bike), which make it easier to cover long distances and give you an extra boost on hills. Check the cycling information section of a trip page to find out if the e-bike option is available. Whatever bike you choose, you'll need to take your own bike helmet.

What happens to my luggage?

On some trips you will have a driver with your group in addition to your leader, who will be transport your luggage in the support vehicle while your leader rides with you. Often on our France cycling holidays your leader will also be your driver, and they will transport your luggage between accommodation while you cycle. On these days you will be provided with maps to get you to the next stop.

On the self-guided cycling trips we will arrange the transfer of your luggage between hotels.

What's the accommodation like?

All of our cycling trips in France include comfortable hotels, usually of 3-star standard. We choose small, family-run hotels where possible that are located in the best place to suit the itinerary. Rooms have en-suite facilities and some may have a swimming point so you can cool off after a day's cycling.

What is the food like?

Food and drink is a big part of our France cycling tours, with many itineraries including options to visit vineyards and taste the local food and wine. Some meals will be included with your trip, most commonly breakfast only - check the trip page for details. Where meals are not included, your leader will be able to recommend local restaurants and can organise bookings for your group if you wish.
